NFL Regular Season MVP Preview

The NFL regular season MVP is the top individual award in the sport and is always one of the most popular betting events of the year. It is an award dominated by quarterbacks, with each of the last nine winners being in this key position, and all the leading contenders in the betting market look likely to follow this same pattern. Here’s a look at the players with the best odds to win the 2022 NFL MVP Award.

Josh Allen 7/1

The early favourite in the betting market is Buffalo star Josh Allen. He has established himself as one of the best young QBs in football after just three seasons in the starting role. He has put some incredible numbers through the air over the last couple of years, while also being his team’s most explosive rushing option. Buffalo are highly fancied to end the season with the best record in the league, and if they do so, Allen is bound to be one of the leading picks for the award. Patrick Mahomes 8/1

2018 winner Patrick Mahomes, and his exciting Kansas City offence, had a strangely subdued start to last year.  However, a strong late-season run has placed him back near the top of the MVP race again, where he’s likely to be a fixture for many years to come. It will be interesting to see how Mahomes goes without star receiver Tyreek Hill, but he has picked up two exciting new offensive targets in JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling. The Chiefs have won their division in each of the past 6 seasons, and another run to the playoffs seems highly likely this year.

Tom Brady 9/1

After the briefest of brief retirements, Tom Brady will return with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as he attempts to win an unprecedented eighth Super Bowl ring. The Bucs appear to have a lethal offence again this season, and Brady will be confident of posting some impressive numbers. His most recent MVP win was in 2017 with the Patriots, and he will be keen to become just the second player to win the award with two different franchises. It would be foolish to discount a player who has continually produced incredible plays over his illustrious career, and he has to be considered a threat to win his fourth MVP award. Aaron Rodgers 10/1

Aaron Rodgers made it back-to-back MVP wins after a hugely impressive regular-season performance. He led the Packers to a 13-4 record, throwing for 4,115 yards, and 37 touchdowns with just four interceptions. The 38-year-old quarterback led Green Bay to a first-place finish in the NFC North and helped secure the top overall seed in the NFC playoffs. Speculation was rife that the four-time winner would leave the Packers this off-season, but he has signed another contract extension and he is guaranteed to be in the mix once again. Back Rodgers to do it again with great odds at Bet Dukes.

Justin Herbert 11/1

After a record-breaking 5,000-yard passing season from Justin Herbert last year, it should be no surprise that expectations are high for the third-year quarterback heading into 2022. Herbert has helped get the Chargers competitive in the increasingly tough AFC West. His LA side suffered an absolutely heartbreaking defeat to miss the postseason by a game last year, but with the addition of elite players like Khalil Mack, JC Jackson, and Sebastian Joseph-Day this summer they should have enough to make it this time round.

Joe Burrow 12/1

Amazingly, last year Joe Burrow got to the Super Bowl quicker than any other No. 1 overall draft pick in the history of the NFL. In the 2021 regular season, he threw for 4,611 yards with 34 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. With a Bengals side that is on the up, and a prolific partnership with Ja’Marr Chase, the future looks bright for Burrow. There will be high expectations for him to do even better this year, but he is more than capable of another stellar season. Bet £10 and get a £10 free bet with BetStorm.

Matthew Stafford 14/1

After 12 years with the Lions, Matt Stafford was traded to the Los Angeles Rams at the start of last season. He is a player who has always posted huge numbers but never had the team capable of taking him to the championships. In 2021, with his new team, Stafford had one of the best seasons of his career. He threw for 4,886 yards, 41 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions. It culminated in Stafford winning four playoff games and his first-ever Super Bowl ring. Coming off this great playoff performance, he is sure to have the confidence needed to lead the Rams to another strong run.

Russell Wilson 16/1

The Denver Broncos made a blockbuster trade as they acquired star quarterback Russell Wilson from the Seattle Seahawks. With this move, the Broncos are in the conversion to win the AFC West, and an outside bet to make the Super Bowl. The nine-time Pro Bowler is walking into a Denver side with a loaded wide receiver base, and he will be confident of hitting the ground running. Wilson has never won this award despite a fantastic career to date, if he can get through the gauntlet that is known as the AFC West then he has every chance of doing it.

Dak Prescott 16/1

Dak Prescott had a great year in 2021, and with his Dallas side in a division that is very winnable, he may well be a leading contender for the award this time. Prescott actually tied MVP Aaron Rodgers with 37 touchdowns, and also had more yards and just 10 interceptions as he led the Cowboys to 12 regular-season game wins. There would probably have been more MVP buzz around him, but he slowed down his production rates towards the end of the season. Get your bets on Dak Prescott now with BetDuel.

Lamar Jackson 22/1

The Ravens were decimated by injury last season, including Jackson himself missing game time. Everything seems to point to them having the roster and coaching staff bounce back in a big way this year. It’s going to be tough in the loaded AFC to put up more wins and better numbers than some of the other top guys on this list, but Jackson proved he can do it when he swept the award in 2019. He has the talent to win another MVP and may be an excellent outside but to win the award.
